Wow a badge.... i'm sold :funny: Dedicated it the way then, can anyone suggest a good shopping cart that can be easily installed and allow me to alter the layout and design. What is OS Commerce like? Cheers John
Well there is ZenCart, CubeCart and OSC all free. I like CactuShop, but it's quite expensive. http://www.cactushop.com/
I have used CubeCart before and it seems to be pretty good. Its also pretty easy to hack in terms of design. :ninja: I think CSNM have it as a application pack in Helm but its an older version and is not recommended but easy to test out I guess. You can download it free from CubeCarts website here.
I've saw it used on a few websites, it doesn't look that bad and I've heard it's quite easy to customise.
Of the ones I have tried, I much prefer cubecart to OSC or Viart In order of preference: Cubecart Viart Anything Anything OSC OSC has lots of features, contribs etc. but it is a real pain to mess with and often contributions will break each other The one that comes with Joomla is meant to be decent too apparently
I agree with Adrew- from what I've read OS Commerce can break when installing modules etc.! Cubecart is very easy to modify and free (to an extent if you can handle the "powered by" and little footer. Or else I *think* it's $69 to remove it! Good luck! Ben
Overall I really like cubecart. I am in the process of updating my store with a fresh installation of the latest version, reinstalling all the mods plus a few more, reskinning it etc and will be paying the US$89 to get the cubecart link at the bottom removed. My current website is www.hesaysshesays.co.uk You can see it is very different from the standard store! I had someone create the skin although I am changing it slightly to make navigation better. I have loads of mods, tweaks and hacks, some I've done, some I've got free and some I've paid for. However there are some things I wish I'd known when I started: Although it is free the cart out of the box is pretty basic. There are both free and paid mods and hacks available-loads of them, so you can get the shop the way you want it, but be aware that you may need to pay. Mods vary in price from free to a couple of pounds to over 20 The most expensive but mods I have are an Express checkout mod 18 so that customers do not need to create an account and the Coupon mod US$20, plus Andrew created a custom mod for me so that I could have differen t thumbnail images. There are loads of mods as I said, and experienced programmers to point you in the right direction. Skinning is relatively easy if you know html and css, or there are skins available, again both free and paid. You can also get custom made skins varying from around 50 -100 The more you know about php, html and css the easier it is to get it looking the way you want, but even someone like me with little php and moderate html/css can manage fine! I wouldn't recommend it to someone who didn't know anything at all unless they were prepared to learn or pay for others to do it for them. hth Sharon
I have to say cubecart is my favourite free (cheap) shopping cart! I also have to say I enjoy this: http://www.hesaysshesays.co.uk/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=14
LOL love the games page Sharon:tounge: Especially the bubble wrap sim thats wkd, you just cant help yourself when theres a bit of it around :funny: We've got a massive role of bubble wrap and it keep me occupied for hours! lol According to the Slogan generator I'm a 'Stupid Idiot' Was it something I pressed? lol
Yes it can - I can't remember exactly without loggin in but I think its in general settings. Give me a shout if you can't find it and sorry to be a bit vague.
:thumbup1: Thanks! I know the slogan generator isn't very high tech but I did it myself so I am quite fond of it! There are quite a few free mods for digital downloads, I scroll past them as it doesn't apply to me but you can do a search on the now read-only forum www.cubecart.org/forums or the new mod forum www.cubecart.org or ask on a new cubecart forum www.cubecartforums.org
