Domain Transfer, Couple Of Questions

    Hi,

My site is currently hosted with CSNM but its .com domain name is with webmania (now yorhost) which I want to move it over. Yesterday I had the domain unlocked and received the EPP key I also checked that the email address shown in the WhoIs is valid, so just a few questions.

    1. Is there anything extra I need to do to point the domain to my webspace once it's moved over?
    2. Currently the DNS are ns1/ns2.ourhelmcp.com should I change the default values in the CSNM transfer form to those or leave them as default, ns1/ns2.csnewmedia.com?
    3. Will there be any down time whilst the transfer is completed or is it simply a change of ownership?

    Thanks.

    Hi Marc,

Once the domain is transferred to CSNM, you won't need to do anything else apart from adding the website in Helm. There shouldn't be any downtime with the transfer of domain providing you have uploaded a website to CSNM to transfer too. There may however, be a delay in the domain transfer while all ISP's update their name server records.

    Hope that helps,
    Adam

Thanks Adam. My hosting already points to my domain name so all should be fine. Any idea about the DNS, edit or leave alone?

    Hi Marc,

Leave the DNS as it is, if that's what the control panel assigned the domain then leave it as is. I think you can ask Carl (CSNM) for custom name servers too. For instance, I use the name servers ns1.silverlinehosting.co.uk, so if you have a main website you can request your personal name servers.

Hope that explains things a bit. It can get a bit complicated, but hopefully it helped!

No, I want to keep it a simple as possible! Just need to get my domain off of webmania with all the trouble they're having. Thanks.
