Every time I log onto my laptop and it has been running for about 5 mins it starts getting all excited!!

Run it with task manager going and I can see the cpu is up to 100%. Checked through and there seems to be nothing "naughty" running in the backgroud. It runs like a dog and you can hear the fan going nuts.

It seems to be certain web pages but I am not sure.

Wife loggd on tonight (same machine) and her log in was fine?

Any ideas, checks or analysis software I could use?

Too much rubbish? cookies, temp files etc?

Give CCleaner a run:
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Also run some adware/spyware scans / antivirus? I assume you already know all of that anyway. ;)

Press “Ctrl Alt Delete”

This will bring up Windows Task Manager

Click on the Processes tab

Click twice were it says CPU (third column from the right)

This will sort the running processes in order of what is using the CPU the most. Normally this the system idle process. You should be able to tell what is hogging all the CPU time

Bl***y thing is at it again. Been checking a couple of other forums around the svchost. Installed a piece of kit called Process explorer and I think it is the Windows Update that is causing the problem.:angry

Turned it off now to see if it is any better
