Thinking of changing my host. Have been with IDAQ (were 1st serv) for a long time (2003 onwards) and their customer support has always been good, especially when I forgot to pay my bill. :/ But having tried to downgrade to remove extra services from my hosting packages that I no longer needed (SSL mainly) their e-commerce won't let me buy a new hosting package to host my domain. :/ So...:

1)Current domain is a .net how hard easy is that to transfer across?

2)Supplied with 4 MySQL DBs (looking at the cheapest level of Linux hosting), but how big are the databases? As in currently (well I did when my hosting package still existed) I have about 40 tables within a single database, that is phpBB and Wordpress plus a couple of home-made tables. Or is it - as I suspect - not something a hobbyist like myself is ever going to have an issue with?

3)What is the definition of adult content? That is I am a poor (well I like them but I don't think I have many readers) writer of fiction that often features themes that some find erotic. No images, audio or video; just text.

4)My current "host" is unable or perhaps unwilling to allow me to use .htaccess .htpasswd to protect subdomains. That is I could protect www.incessant-logic.net/mysafelocation/ but not private.incessant-logic.net/. Is this possible here? And if it isn't can I get a rebate for unwanted subdomains? ;)

5)Saw a mention of no telephone support, but that was a while ago (looking through the forums), is this still the case? What sort of response time is there on email, web form or forum support requests? Have to ask as I seem to end up doing my changes at 3am... (closet insomniac). (Not that I'd ring up anyone at 3am but having email support then would be great.) :D

6)Images... I know I hit this in the past with something I was working on, which image processing *thing* (I'd call it a library under windows don't know what they are called under linux) do you have/support? Thinking GD or ImageMagik etc. It's not something I have needed in a while but I might again so it is worth asking.

Thanks for the help in advance...

LN

Hi LN,

Thank you for your interest in CS New Media.

1. If you wish to transfer the actual domain registration to us (so management of the domain is done via us, i.e. nameserver changes/renewals) there are a few things you need to do:

- Unlock the domain at the current domain registrar
- Ensure the email address for the admin contact on the domain is correct
- Ask the current domain registrar to provide the domains EPP key

Once you have done those 3 things you can submit the domain for transfer, .net transfers can take anything from a few hours to 7-10 days. In the meantime while the transfer is taking place, you can point the domain to us by changing the domains nameservers at your current domain registrar.

2. MySQL databases use the disk space assigned to the account, so our Linux Lite package includes 2GB of disk space for website data, email & databases. We don't place 'hard limits' on any of our hosting plans, this means if you go over your limit your website & email services will continue to work.

3. Adult content that is legal within the UK is fine on our servers, writing should be fine.

4. We don't have any restrictions on .htaccess/.htpassword, you can secure a directory directly from our hosting control panel.

5. We still don't provide telephone support and have no plans to introduce it anytime soon. Support is handled via our web based helpdesk/email and is available 24x7. Response times can vary depending on how busy we are, but service affecting/critical issues are typically responded to in under 10/15 minutes.

6. GD/ImageMagik is available as standard on our Linux hosting servers.

Please let us know if you have any further questions. :D
