SSL Alias Subdomain

is there any way that you can setup a secure (https) alias to the web email subdomain (such as mail.domain.com) ?

No, this isn't possible.

Surely if you get a SSL cert on your domain it should cover sub domains also?? Just a thought though..

No, standard SSL Certificates only cover one domain not aliases and you can't secure webmail due to the way it's setup.
