Hi there,
I am planning on moving my current websites from my package with 1and1 over to a CSNM Microsoft reseller package.
I'd like to ask a few questions before i get started:
1. On my 1and1 package I have 5x .co.uk, 4x .com domains, and 1x me.uk domains. What would be the cost of transferring all of these domains to my new CNM package?
2. If I select the bill-monthly option, will CSNM bill me monthly? It sounds like a silly question, but with 1and1 they do not provide monthly billing, they merely quote monthly prices as a guideline (how frustrating!)
3. Can I create virtual directories for my .NET 2.0 sites? If not, then will my domain name be set up as applications in IIS?
I ask this because with my current hosts (1and1) I have to point domain names to a single phsyical folder (where i drop the bin files), and then redirect to a subdirectory. For example: domain1.com redirects domain1.com/domain and domain2.com redirects to domain2.com/domain2, and the bin files sit in the root.
4. The reseller comparison chart states: "MS-SQL 2005: 10 / 30 / 60 / 150", but what does this mean? is this the total maximum file size allowed in megabytes for a SQL Instance or database? Can i create multiple SQL server databases until they reach the maximum size, or am i limited to one sql Database up to the max size?
here's a link to the comparison chart that i've been using:
http://www.csnewmedia.com/reseller/windows/index.asp
5. Do the same rules for question 4, apply to MySql?
6. If i outgrow a reseller package, can i upgrade it to a more advanced reseller package? If so, is there a charge for this?
7. Is SMTP available to .NET applications? can i send email via System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient in my websites?
Sorry to pile on the questions. From what I've been able to find out CSNM is looking really good, but I just want to make sure i'm all clued up on what to expect before I go ahead and order a package.
Best regards,
Andy.

Hi Andy,
Thank you for your interest in CS New Media Web Hosting. I'll try and make this reply as simple as possible:
Domain Transfers - you can keep them at 1and1 and simply point your nameservers to point to us (no charge) or you can transfer the domains to us this means all future billing for the domain would be handled via us. As you have multiple domains it could be quite expensive for you therefore we can arrange a discount if you wanted to transfer them all.
For .uk domains we charge £10, depending on how long is left on the domain we could possibly put it through free, .com domains we charge £8 but they include 1 years free renewal. As above I'm sure we could arrange a discount if you needed to transfer them all to us.
We offer monthly or yearly billing, we are not like 1and1 and have quite a few 1and1 refugees on this forum.
Virtual Directories - yes you can create them inside the Helm Control Panel.
Database Allocations - as an example our Bronze Windows Reseller says "10" this means you get 10 single/seperate MS-SQL 2005 databases. Databases use the disk space assigned to your reseller package. The same applies for MySQL.
Upgrades - if you start on the Bronze Windows Reseller, you can upgrade it to any other reseller plan or a custom reseller package at any time, by contacting us via the Helpdesk. No settings or un-used credit would be lost.
SMTP - yes we support System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient in .NET applications.
I think that is everything, if you have any further questions please let us know.
Warm Regards,
delie

Hi Carl,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
Unfortunately, 1and1 will not allow me to cancel a hosting package without also cancelling all of my domains too. Sadly, I made the mistake of registering my domain names through 1and1 after signing up to their hosting package.
More information here:
http://faq.oneandone.co.uk/contract/3.html
This is the important line: "Please note that it is impossible to cancel a contract while leaving domains with us!" ... great!
I do have the option of buying a cheap package with them, and then transferring my domains over to that account meaning my hosting bills wouldn't cost so much, but they even charge for this internal transfer.
The plan, therefore, is to cancel my existing 1and1 hosting package, and transfer all of the domains. Even if it's costlier in the short term i'd rather do it that way and keep everything in one place, and avoid rewarding 1and1 by paying them for their bad service ;)
FYI - I've just checked the expiration dates on all of my domains:
.com 1 - expires 31-Aug-2007
.com 2 - expires 13-Jun-2007
.com 3 - expires 11-Jan-2008
.com 4 - expires 09-Jul-2007
.co.uk 1 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009
.co.uk 2 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009
.co.uk 3 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009
.co.uk 4 - Renewal date: 09-May-2007
.co.uk 5 - Renewal date: 09-Jul-2007
.me.uk 1 - Renewal date: 20-Feb-2009
If we could come to some arrangement on transferring all of the domains then that would be great. What's the best way of moving forwards / sorting out the domains?
Best regards,
Andy.

Hi Andy,
No problem - probably best if you keep all your eggs in one basket anyway. :thumbup1:
We could do the following:
.com 1 - expires 31-Aug-2007 - £4.00 (half price + 1 year free renewal)
.com 2 - expires 13-Jun-2007 - £4.00 (half price + + 1 year free renewal)
.com 3 - expires 11-Jan-2008 - £8.00 (1 year free renewal)
.com 4 - expires 09-Jul-2007 - £8.00 (1 year free renewal)
.co.uk 1 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009 - £10.00
.co.uk 2 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009 £10.00
.co.uk 3 - Renewal date: 11-Jan-2009 £8.00
.co.uk 4 - Renewal date: 09-May-2007 - free
.co.uk 5 - Renewal date: 09-Jul-2007 - free
.me.uk 1 - Renewal date: 20-Feb-2009 - £10.00
Total: £62.00 - that is quite heavily discounted, we actually very little from domain registrations we offer them more as an add-on to compliment the hosting.
Once you are signed up for the reseller hosting package we can sort the domains out then. If you have any further questions please let us know.

 really?
Isn't it better to keep domain registrations and hosting separate "just in case"?

No, not in my opinion - if you don't have faith/trust in your provider with your domains why should you trust them with your web hosting?

I just moved over from 1 and 1 aswell. I just changed the dns and pointed it over this way. I read somewhere that your best to transfer your domains over from 1 and 1 before cancelling your package with them. I will dig out the link.
As for .net hosting. Well my site is much faster and each site you create has it's own directory which can easily be setup as a virtual directory. I myself was also not impressed with 1and1 setup where all your different sites files where in one place. Another thing is that you with 1and1 you couldn't run a .net app in a sub domain. Well here it is possible :)
Support is fast and friendly and as you can see here it's a small community where everyone helps as much as they can. I have nothing but praise for CSN.

Hi Carl,
Thank you once again for the quick response. I have now signed up to CSNM with a reseller account :)
@ Siphilp - I know what you mean RE the 1&1 situation. I couldn't believe they seriously expected people to work like that with .NET sites, so I finally decided it was time to escape. I'm in the process of moving my domains over from 1&1, as soon as that's done i'll be canceling the contract with them. :)

I'd have to agree and welcome you too, as I was once a 1&1 customer and have to say CS New Media are brilliant and much better than 1&1, especially Carl, who I think may be a robot as he always seems to be working ;-)

Just a little input... I myself had 1&1 Professional windows hosting. They allowed me to downgrade my package to instant domain, thereby not cancelling the contract. Then I just changed the dns entries.
