What would you say is much better about it?
Easier on the eye and appears to have better navigation

Much better steven, the colour scheme is much nicer and cleaner than your previous version.
Although I do prefer the old banner at the top.
Another little thing the menu on the new one, I don't like the arrows pointing right either side, ie
> fixtures >
Wouldn't it be nicer if the second was reversed so it looked like...
> fixtures <
Probably just personal opionon that one. Overall a great improvement, like the little boxes of info on either side, I've always liked that sort of approach.
I notice you say idea one, got any others you'd like to share?

I did but I think the one I posted was the one I decided to go with, have done really anything to the other ideas

started the tedious process of changing the pages to the new design. I have altered a few things, probably most noticeable are the now yellow/orange headers - what do you think?

I'll be honest not a big fan of the yellow/orange headers I prefered the grey ones, a bit more subtle.
But if yellow is the colour of the team I suppose you have to stick with em.
Try to use templates for the new design makes the process of changing over to future new looks or smaller changes easier.

I agree with you on this one. Really using > Menu Item > is meant for breadcrumb trail menus.
Like how it is coming along though
