A few months ago I was a bit heavy handed in the add/remove section and uninstalled a program I now want back. As far as I know, I can do a system restore but I don't want to lose all the programs I've since installed and all the settings and toolbars etc so will this work: do a system restore, somehow copy the program I want onto disk or external hd, undo the system restore and add the program?
If so, what files/folders do I need to save to get the whole program back?
Many thanks
Sharon

Would it not be easier to reinstall the program? :funny:

Well yes, reading back what I wrote that does make sense! But I forgot to mention it was already installed on the laptop when I got it and I don't have anything to reinstall it!

You'd have to get all the required .dll's, all the registry info and all the files in the folder, plus loads of other things.

What program is it?

You can get software that is meant to backup an entire program, although from experience they rarely work!

Thanks Ben, sounds complicated!

It is sonic, so I can burn dvds. I don't know why I uninstalled it, must have been having a blonde day

Sharon,
Quite a few laptop's have the install paths hidden on the laptop (especially those that don't come with disks, and even more so if you did not receive a XP disk only the licence & key) If you set explorers settings to display all files (& System files) you may be able to find the path. (remember to set explorer back after you look).

Sometimes they are on a seperate disk partition / Dive letter.

David.

Yeah my computer has a whole partition called recover which has the the files for all the pre-installed programs in it.

If you need it that badly you could buy the new version, I'm sure there are many new features! However personally I'd consider a different program and you never know maybe you could find some freeware ones!
