I am setting up an online store selling charms, runes and hard to find books on various pagan topics. I will have a relatively large stock range. I want to be able to add and remove items easily. I will want to show images of the items for sale along with brief text descriptions and prices. I want to integrate the shopping cart with paypal. If you need any more information please ask.

Have a look at:
OSCommerce
CubeCart
Zen Cart
Virtuemart/Joomla
Viart

I prefer CubeCart, it is easier to modify and skin

Will I need much/any web design skill to set this up myself?

How easy is it to integrate CubeCart with PayPal?

I think what Mike is wanting is a bespoke system with a custom design.

The cheaper option would be an off the shelf shopping cart such as CubeCart or Oscommerce and then getting someone to skin it.

CubeCart works fine with PayPal, you just insert your PayPal email address.

So I just need to get someone to do the skin. Any ideas how much this will cost?

Also, how easy is it to install? I don't really want to pay them to install it.

It is very easy to install, create a database, upload and run the installer (20 minutes at the most)

Skinning is just a matter of creating a new design for it, which won't cost nearly as much as a bespoke system (I would personally be worried if someone offered a bespoke system for £500!)

As for cost, that depends how complex you want the design to be!

The installer needs to be run on the host server, yes?

I would be happy with a very simple design. Can you reccomend anyone to do this?

I have looked at the downloads section of the CubeCart website and I am very confused about which files to download.

Yes, I can always help installing if you get stuck (in my non-staff capacity)

If you have a design in mind, drop me an email and I'll send a quote (andrew @ itsolutionsuk.net)

I have noticed in the CubeCart upload files that there are three skins, Classic, Killer, Legend already there. Should I use one of these or pay to have a skin designed?

If you find a free skin you like, no point in paying, have a look here:

I have had a look at these skins and decided that I would rather have a custom made skin. Have you read my email?

I often find that a good place to get reasonably priced design services is by running a design competition with a set amount prize on either sitepoint.com or namepros.com

There are some really talented folk who take part.
