Visit or View

What is the difference between a page view and visit? Just looking at my sites stats and there is a significant difference. Does a view mean that its not just a user looking, but could be a crawler

Correct me if I am wrong but think of it this way:

A visit is going to an art gallery but a view is looking at a piece of art.

So repetitive views of a page by the same user still counts as one visit.
